Listeriosis Outbreak Linked to Deli Meats
Two Dead, Dozens Sickened
Investigators Probe Specific Meats Eaten
At least two people have died and more than two dozen others have been sickened in an outbreak of listeria that appears to be linked to deli meats. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a warning Friday about a deadly multistate listeria outbreak connected to deli meat.
Investigators are collecting information to determine the specific meats that may be contaminated. Many people in this outbreak are reporting eating meats that they had sliced at deli counters.
The CDC says it always recommends that people at higher risk for listeriosis avoid eating meats sliced at the deli or heat them to an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit before eating.
