Former Hockey Night in Canada broadcaster Dave Hodge says he has no regrets about the commentary that got him fired from the show in 2014.

Hodge was let go after he criticized the CBC's decision to cut away from live sports to show a taped segment about the death of former NHL player Pat Burns.

"I don't regret anything I said," Hodge told the Toronto Star in a recent interview. "I stand by it. I think it was the right thing to say at the time."

Hodge said he was "blindsided" by his firing, but he understands why the CBC made the decision.

"They had to do what they had to do," he said. "I'm not bitter about it. I wish them all the best."

Hodge has since retired from broadcasting, but he still follows hockey closely. He said he believes the game is in good hands with the current generation of players.

"The game is in a great place right now," he said. "The players are more skilled than ever before, and the fans are more passionate than ever. I'm excited to see what the future holds for hockey."

Hodge's firing was a controversial moment in the history of Hockey Night in Canada. Some fans supported Hodge's comments, while others felt that he had crossed a line.

Regardless of where you stand on the issue, there's no doubt that Hodge's firing was a watershed moment for the show. It marked the end of an era and the beginning of a new one.
